"Sports Classic. Right after "Raging Bull" and "Requiem for a Heavyweight" this is the thrid best fight film/movie about boxing. Based on the life of "Jimmy Braddock" whom defied all odds and became the heavyweight champ during the depression. In doing so he became a legend and hero to the average joe, after all he was one of them, whom was suffering and hungry. Russell Crowe is at his very best as far as acting and played the part great. He looked, acted like and moved like a real fighter. Finally, to boot....the fight scenes are intense and the way they are captured, is unbelieveable. The only complaint is the falsely over the top "evil demeanor" they protray Max Baer. Very inaccurate, a real error on Ron Howard's part and the movie's only negative. A truly great film. A sports classic for sure and a must see. Buy or rent it today!!" --Jesse Felzien |
