Any knowledgeable basketball follower (especially of the college game) is fully aware of the contributions made by Flint, Michigan. The 2001 documentary, Flint Star, chronicles the amazing story behind this economically-strapped city and the heroes that have emerged from its ghetto.
Conceived and practically self-produced, written and directed by Marcus Davenport, much of the film focuses on the "Flintstones," who went on to lead Michigan State to the 2000 NCAA championship. Such notable players as Mateen Cleaves and Charlie Bell from that Spartan team, as well as other outstanding players such as Glen Rice, Terry Furlow and Eddie Johnson are featured, both in action and in interviews. Legendary women's players from Flint, including the McGee twins, Pam and Paula, are also featured.
Flint Star serves to motivate even the most downtrodden, showing that dreams can be achieved, regardless of the obstacles.
