Nearly thirty years later, Bruce Brown made the sequel to his ground-breaking 1966 "surfumenatry" with 1994's The Endless Summer II. Viewers of the original will immediately pick up on how the sport has evolved, most notably with the differences in the surfboard itself. The once ubiquitous longboards have been replaced by shorter, more easily manueverable boards, and the surfers themselves are more athletic and daring. Variations, such as body-surfing and wind-surfing have also become commonplace.
Endless Summer II re-visits many of the locales that the original introduced, and even takes audiences to new, exotic surfing meccas such as Bali, Costa Rica, France, and yes, Alaska. Advancements in film technology make for an even more thrilling adventure than the original, although after seeing both productions, viewers can't help but admire and appreciate the first film even more.
The late Australian naturist Steve Irwin makes a cameo appearance.
