Movie Description

Every baseball fan knows of the contributions made to the major leagues by the Caribbean's Dominican Republic. The documentary film Change Up chronicles the journey of two young Dominican ballplayers as they attempt to fulfill their dreams of reaching the big leagues.

The two aspiring young athletes, Rafael Rodriguez and Alex Sosa, both pitchers, come from severely impoverished families, and quit school to pursue their careers. The film follows them as they, along with their agents, embark on a year-long journey to the United States to try and impress major league scouts with their skills.

Underlying the pressure foisted upon the teenagers is the ever-present possibility that their talents will fail to achieve the desired result, forcing them to return to the economically-strapped homeland. Change Up graphically portrays the "all-or-nothing" mindset that drives these talented athletes, and helps to explain, somewhat, why baseball players have become the Domincan's chief export.
