Winner of the Sundance Film Festival's Grand Jury Prize for Short Film, The Whistle is a soccer documentary from talented Polish filmmaker Grzegorz Zariczny.
The Whistle is the story of a soccer referee who has reached a critical crossroads in his life which requires decision-making of a type which he's managed to avoid to this point. His mother is relentless in her determination for him to become "something," and even the soccer pitch, his former sanctuary from all things "adult," begins to turn against him. His rulings during matches turn into physical confrontations with fans, players and coaches, adding even more unwanted tension to his situation.
