ilms featuring handicapped athletes aren't generally high on movie-watchers "must-see" lists, but an exception is the 2005 documentary, Murderball, featuring wheelchair rugby as played by quadraplegic athletes.
Murderball chronicles, most effectively, the 2004 Paralympic Games, specifically the lead-up to the match between bitter rivals, the U.S. and Canadian squads. Viewers will be astounded at the preparation and dogged determination displayed by these remarkable athletes, which meshes deftly with anything "normal" athletes undergo.
Nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature, Murderball routinely is included on lists of "Best" sports movies. Cast members Keith Cavil, Andy Cohn, Mark Zupan and Joe Soares play their roles superbly.
Costing but $300,000 to make, Murderball serves as an excellent example for aspiring filmmakers on how to operate on a "shoestring-budget."
