Movie Description

Perhaps the quintessential underdog story, the 1976 sports drama, Rocky, became a world-wide phenomenon and introduced Sylvester Stallone. Made for less than $1 million, Rocky eventually pulled in over $225 million at the box office.

Rocky Balboa is a lower-level boxer from Philadelphia who literally falls into a shot at the world's heavyweight champion, Apollo Creed, when Creed's scheduled opponent is forced to withdraw due to injury. Rocky finds himself hooked up with gym owner and boxing maven Mickey Goldmill as trainer, and the two clash immediately. Rocky's friend, Paulie acts as mediator and brokers a truce, albeit a shaky one.

Viewers will see the inevitable ending just around the corner, but the film is still stirring and motivating. Rocky won Best Picture, Best Film Editing as well as Best Director (John J. Avildsen) Academy Awards in 1976.rite.
