Cast: Kate Bosworth, Matt Davis, Michelle Rodriguez, Sanoe Lake
Oahu's North Shore, hallowed ground among surfers, is the locale for the 2002 surf film, Blue Crush. The film stars Kate Bosworth as an aspiring surfer hoping to compete in the North Pipe Masters Surf tournament. However, a horrible surfing accident has her skittish about getting back onboard. That, along with the emotional burden of being forced to raise her younger sister after their mother abandoned them is almost too much to overcome.
Anne Marie (Bosworth) and her sister share a house with two other girls, also surf fanatics, their lives essentially revolving around catching the next big wave.
The ending is predictable, with plenty of surf action and a smattering of romance for good measure.
With John Stockwell directing, Blue Crush provides little depth, but the cast is attractive, the scenery lush, and the dedicated "surf movie" fan will probably be satisfied.
