Movie Description

The surf movie comes of age in 1978's Big Wednesday, a film that not only follows the "sun and fun" template of the 60s "beach party" genre, but delves deeper into the characters and the challenges they face as they deal with a changing world.

Directed by John Milius, Big Wednesday stars Jan-Michael Vincent, William Katt and Gary Busey as three surfing friends coming of age in the turbulent 60s. In contrast to the innocence of earlier surf films, Big Wednesday deals frankly with social issues such as Vietnam, draft-dodging and marriage.

John Milius went on to legendary status with his contributions (as either screenwriter, director or producer) in such iconic Hollywood productions as Apocalypse Now, Jaws, Dirty Harry, Conan the Barbarian and The Hunt For Red October.
