In the days of racial segregation in major league baseball, African-American players frequently "barnstormed" their way across the country, usually taking on all-white teams to make extra money. In the case of the Bingo Long team, the renegade players were so talented and successful that they began to cut into attendance figures of the more established existing "black" teams, creating resentment. The film's climax features a "show-down" between the barnstormers and the top Negro League squad, with the stakes being inclusion into the league for a victory by the All-Stars.
