Movie Description

An "Outward Bound"-type school sailing trip, based on a true story, is recounted in the 1996 drama White Squall, starring Jeff Bridges as a tough, disciplinarian teacher who is in charge of an ill-fated journey from the Bahamas to the Galapagos and back through the Caribbean.

The eight-month excursion was intended to teach the class of fourteen boys sailing skills as well as discipline while aboard the schooner, the Albatross. Also onboard were four instructors and a cook. En route from Mexico to the Bahamas on May 2, 1961, the Albatross was apparently overtaken by a white squall, an oceanic phenomenon characterized by the absence of the normal dark clouds or advance warning.

White Squall was directed by Ridley Scott, director of such classics as Alien, Thelma & Louise, Blade Runner, Black Hawk Down and Hannibal.
