The 2008 baseball drama, Touching Home, revolves around a somewhat dysfunctional family (minus the mother) struggling to come to terms with their less-than-ideal surroundings, their aspirations, and the father's personal demons.
Charlie Winston is an unrepentant alcoholic gambler who lives in an old camper that's crammed full of a lifetime's worth of junk. His twin sons, Clint and Lane, work with him at a gravel quarry, and when Clint discovers the money he's saving to attend a baseball tryout camp is missing, he confronts Charlie, who admits to the theft, but has no explanation for his actions.
Touching Home runs the risk of being overly sentimental and maudlin, but due to the excellent performances by the cast, avoids predictability and instead offers an honest portrayal of working-class dreams, drawing the audience's sympathy and support.
Ed Harris is wonderful as Charlie, while the twins (Logan and Noah Miller), convincingly interpret the special bond that twins possess, a quality not easily captured on film.
