From Rocky to Rudy, the Bad News Bears to Major League, moviegoers can't resist an against-all-odds sports "underdog" film. Now, for the first time, moviemakers are taking on a relatively unknown sport in Crooked Arrows, a story of a rag-tag team of Native American lacrosse players who find themselves persevering against all kind of obstacles to reach their league's championship match.
Featuring genuine lacrosse players, Crooked Arrows introduces the sport to the big screen for the first time, and using the tried-and-true formula of "David vs. Goliath" that proved to be successful with the above-mentioned films, expect Crooked Arrows to spike interest in this predominantly East Coast sport.
Superman Returns star Brandon Routh (whose ancestors were members of the Kickapoo tribe) is the main character, and the largely amateur cast consists of both collegiate and professional lacrosse players.
Crooked Arrows was written by Todd Baird, while Steve Rash, who's earned kudos for his work on The Buddy Holly Story, Can't Buy Me Love and Queens Logic, is directing.
