Movie Description

Blending science fiction with boxing is the focus of Real Steel, a film adapted from a 1956 short story by sci-fi legend Richard Matheson.

In the year 2020, robots have replaced human boxers, but the sport is no less brutal (or popular). Charlie Kenton (Hugh Jackman) is the owner of Ambush, one of the more successful "boxbots," but when Ambush is soundly thrashed in an unsanctioned exhibition match, Kenton finds himself $20K in the hole.

As answer to his prayers, the mother of Kenton's son dies, and in desperation, he agrees to sign over custody of the boy to the deceased's sister and husband for $100K. Kenton uses his settlement to purchase another robot, but things don't work out, and he's forced to try and build a "boxbot" from spare parts. Designed to be virtually indestructible, the new fighter embarks on a path that leads to a title bout with an even more fearsome opponent.

Real Steel received a Best Visual Effects Academy Award nomination.
