Filmed in the European ski country of Austria and Germany, Chalet Girl is a "coming of age" romantic comedy written by Tom Williams and directed by Phil Trail (All About Steve, Men of a Certain Age).
With her mother recently killed in an automobile accident, Kim Mathews (Felicity Jones) finds herself faced with adult responsibilities much sooner than anticipated. Once a standout skateboarder, she has abandoned her dreams in order to help out her widowed father (Bill Bailey) by going to work at a fast food joint. However, the money she earns turns out to be woefully inadequate, and on an impulse she finds a
better-paying job as a chalet girl in the Alps, disregarding her complete lack of skiing or snowboarding experience.
Encouraged by a co-worker to take up snowboarding, she discovers that her prior skateboarding prowess makes her a natural, and she sets her sights on a snowboarding competition, with a $25,000 prize as motivation.
Young romance, predictable snow-related wipeouts and the usual "uncool" adults fill in most of the story, with all turning out well in the end.
Ms. Jones received almost unanimous praise for her portrayal, while Ed Westwick, Ken Duken and Brooke Shields turn in suitable performances.
