Dil Bole Hadippa is a Bollywood comedy with a storyline revolving around cricket, romance, competition, and as icing on the proverbial cake, gender disguise. Similar to Hollywood's "She's the Man," Anurag Singh's direction is uncomplicated and run-of-the-mill, although the costuming and cinematography is admirable.
Rani Mukherjee stars as a diehard cricket fan who loves the game so much that she goes to the trouble of disguising herself as a male in order to participate on her village's cricket team. To spice up the otherwise so-so storyline, the son of the team's owner is imported from England to coach the team, which has an upcoming match looming against their hated Pakistani rivals.
There are no surprises in Dil Bole Hadippa, and locker room scenes are, as expected, predictable and overdone. A romance between Rani and the team's coach is also apparent early on, but in the best cinematic tradition, all obstacles are worked out in ample time to provide a happy ending.
