Movie Description
California beach volleyball is the subject of the 2006 comedy film, Cloud 9, starring Burt Reynolds, D.L. Hughley and Paul Rodriguez.
Reynolds resurrects his signature character role, the wise-cracking, womanizing con man (Smokey and The Bandit, The Longest Yard), as Billy Cole, a down-on-his-luck middle-aged sport events promoter who gets the idea to stage volleyball matches featuring strippers in skimpy bikinis to make some money.
Cloud 9 isn’t going to make any lists of cinematic masterpieces, with young ladies bouncing around in hot sand being basically the entire storyline. Cameos by Tom Arnold (usually the proverbial ‘kiss of death’), Tony Danza and Gary Busey, along with volleyball professional Gabrielle Reece fail to enliven the film.
Sometime stand-up comedian/actor Harry Basil directed the screenplay which was written by Brett Hudson, Burt Kearns and Albert S. Ruddy.
