Movie Description

The battle of the sexes takes to the ice in the sports comedy, Hockey Mom, an independent Canadian film directed by Kari Skogland. Jason Priestly, Jessalyn Gilsig, Juliette Marquis and Margot Kidder star.

Once a promising Olympic Ice Hockey hopeful, Paula (Gilsig) is now a single mother working a manufacturing job and occasionally getting back on the ice with co-workers. Fed up with the incessant chauvinistic attitudes during matches, she throws down the gauntlet and challenges her male tormentors to a real match. They accept, but then she discovers assembling a competent all-female hockey squad is quite a daunting task. Trying to juggle her job, raising her son and still putting together a team almost overwhelms her.

Despite the predictable slapstick and unavoidable scenarios that ensue, Paula manages to whip up a passable impersonation of a hockey team for the film’s unsurprising climax.

Decent action footage and better-than-average performances make Hockey Mom a passable evening’s entertainment.
