Movie Description
In the 1937 film drama, Idol of the Crowds, screen legend John Wayne stars, not as a no-nonsense cowboy or a tough-as-nails lawman, but as an ice hockey player named Johnny Hansen.
In typical Wayne fashion, he is a straight-shooter. Unfortunately, Hansen’s steadfast attitude doesn’t sit well with a few others, including some teammates who have fallen under the spell of some gamblers, and as retaliation, they conspire to seriously injure Hansen’s 12-year old nephew, who happens to be the hockey club’s mascot. Quite naturally, this doesn’t come without some good old-fashioned John Wayne Justice.
Sheila Bromley co-stars as Wayne’s love interest, with other prominent cast members being Charles Brokaw, Hal Neiman, Bill Burrud and Jane Johns. Arthur Lubin, who also was behind the camera for several early Hollywood classics such as the Francis, the Talking Mule film series, directed.
