Movie Description

Baseball fans will enjoy Knuckleball, a sports documentary that investigates and dissects the baffling pitch that’s been the bane of batters for over a century. The film gets “up close and personal” with the only two major-league pitchers that relied on the pitch in 2011, R.A. Dickey of the Mets and Tim Wakefield of the Red Sox.

Despite opposition from nearly every corner of the baseball “establishment,” Dickey and Wakefield doggedly stick to their pitch-of-choice, which is almost as difficult to explain as it is to hit. Viewers are taken behind the scenes at the ballpark and on the road as the two seek to develop some kind of mastery over the unique pitch, with mixed results. Scenes of the two pitchers away from the ballpark are also featured, and not surprisingly, even at home they can’t stop trying to get a “grip” on their curse and/or blessing.

Appearing in cameos to discuss the unorthodox pitch are retired Jim Bouton, Wilbur Wood and the all-time winningest knuckleball pitcher, Hall of Famer Phil Niekro.
