Movie Description
The life of legendary boxing champion Manny Pacquiao is the subject of the sports/biographical film documentary, Manny. The film is co-directed by Leon Gast (When We Were Kings) and Ryan Moore, and narrated by Academy Award-nominated actor Liam Neeson.
Rising out of unspeakable poverty in his native Philippines, Pacquiao left his small rural village at the age of 14 for the capital city of Manila, where he lived on the streets while trying to earn money for his family. His talent for boxing attracted attention, and led to the government subsidizing his training and providing him with housing. He began fighting professionally at age 16, quickly earning a reputation. He captured his first title in 1997, eventually going on to capture world title belts in seven different weight divisions, becoming an international sports icon.
Maintaining his world championship titles, Pacquiao has also become a prominent politician, winning election to the Philippine House of Representatives in both 2010 and 2013.
The film features never-before-seen footage of early Pacquiao boxing action, as well as in-depth interviews with notable friends and colleagues such as Oscar de la Hoya, Jimmy Kimmel, Jeremy Piven and Mark Wahlberg.
