Movie Description

With a competent cast and an uncomplicated, "been-there-done-that" storyline, Summer Catch is a baseball-themed romantic comedy that harkens back to simpler times. Michael Tollin, no stranger to sports-related productions (Varsity Blues, Coach Carter and the acclaimed The Bronx Is Burning), directed.

Ryan Dunne (Freddie Prinze, Jr.) is a decent minor league baseball prospect with dreams of making the majors. When he encounters Tenley Parrish (Jessica Biel), vacationing with her family in the area, Dunne quickly falls in love, and complicates his aspirations. Soon, he feels the pressure from all sides and struggles to deal with not only his own expectations, but everyone else’s as well.

Prinze and Biel turn in splendid performances, as does the supporting cast, led by Fred Ward, Brittany Murphy, Brian Dennehy and Gabriel Mann. Several notable baseball figures appear in cameos, including Hank Aaron, Carlton Fisk, Ken Griffey, Jr., Kevin Youkilis and Hall of Fame broadcaster Curt Gowdy.
