Movie Description
An idealistic "surfer dude" (Matthew McConaughey) is the subject of the identically-titled 2008 comedy, Surfer Dude. The film seems to be trying to make a pro-environment statement, but it somehow falls short of full-out advocacy.
Addington (the "Surfer Dude") begins to question the meaning(s) of existence when apparent global warming causes West Coast wave activity to recede to almost nothing. Addington refuses to become a part of the commercialism surrounding professional surfing, but his admirable stance becomes lost in the one-liners and sex, drugs and rock ‘n roll surroundings.
McConaughey is totally convincing as a "surfer dude," and the supporting cast of Woody Harrelson, Scott Glenn and Willie Nelson do as good a job as can be expected. The film seems disjointed however, and for a "comedy," the laughs are few and far between.
