This Old Cub is a documentary relating the story of Ron Santo, Chicago Cubs 3rd baseman who became one of the most-beloved Wrigley Field heroes in the club’s history. Co-produced by the Chicago Tribune and the Walgreen’s retail drug chain, along with Ron Santo’s son Jeff, who also wrote and directed, This Old Cub unflinchingly tells of Santo’s battles with diabetes, which not only eventually cost him both legs, but his life as well.

Narrated by actor Joe Mantegna, This Old Cub also features touching interviews with such Cub (and Chicago) notables as Bill Murray, Gary Sinise and Ernie Banks, along with several members of the infamous Wrigley Field Bleacher Bums.

Santo himself is the unquestioned “star” of This Old Cub, and there is ample footage of the slugging 3rd sacker, who was named an All-Star nine times, won five Gold Gloves and was posthumously elected to baseball’s Hall of Fame in December, 2011.
