Movie Description
Produced and directed by Angelina Jolie, the war drama Unbroken is adapted from Laura Hillenbrand’s 2010 account of the true story of Louie Zamperini, a U.S. Army Air Force WWII bombardier and Olympic athlete who survives almost unimaginable obstacles following the downing of his aircraft by the Japanese in 1943. Talented young actor Jack O’Connell turns in a sterling performance as Zamperini.
On a search-and-rescue mission in the South Pacific, Zamperini and crew are forced to crash their plane in the ocean, and along with two other survivors, endure a 47-day ordeal aboard two life rafts before being rescued by the Japanese, becoming prisoners-of-war. When their captors become aware of Zamperini’s Olympic background, a Japanese corporal (the "Bird") attempts to make Zamperini’s life even more miserable.
Unbroken has already received several prestigious cinematic awards, including recognition from the American Film Institute, the Hollywood Film Awards and the National Board of Review.
