Movie Description

The true story of the Concord, Cal. De La Salle high school football team’s remarkable 151-game winning streak (between 1992-2003) is dramatized in the sports drama, When the Game Stands Tall. Thomas Carter directs the film, which stars Jim Caviezel, Laura Dern, Michael Chiklis and Alexander Ludwig.

Although De La Salle is a private Catholic institution, many of the school’s elite athletes come from disadvantaged households, providing head coach Bob Ladouceur (Caviezel) with ample challenges in managing his socially diverse Spartan football team. The pressure to continue winning subsequently contributes to Ladouceur suffering a heart attack. When a former Spartan star player is senselessly gunned down soon afterwards, the entire program is understandably traumatized.

The winning streak is broken in Ladouceur’s absence, but the coach, having time to reflect upon more important "life" issues, re-dedicates himself to teaching his players more than how to block and tackle, guides the team into the state championship game, and is rewarded when his star player foregoes an opportunity to earn individual honors for the betterment of the team.
